Rider Gear

  • Full-coverage leathers (one-piece or jacket and pants attached with minimum ¾ zip around waist) or an equivalent high quality textile riding suit (Aerostich Roadcrafter or similar). If your in doubt about the track worthiness of your gear give us a call.
  • Leather riding gloves that extend above the wrist. rider gear
  • Leather riding boots fully covering the ankle.
  • DOT-approved full-faced helmet.
  • A back protector is highly recommended.

These items are covered in more detail below.

When discussing gear we have to use the “C” word, so we'll just get it out there in the open…Crash. There, we said…er…wrote it. Crash happens. There are two kinds of motorcyclists, those who have crashed and those who will. It's just the propensity of two wheeled vehicles. Hence the gear issue.

If you do any sportbiking or sport touring you will most likely have everything in this category except full coverage leathers. Most people even have a jacket, but for some reason people don't seem to care about their legs.

HelmetIt must be a full-faced unit approved by any of the usual suspects (DOT, Snell, etc), and it must have a chin strap.

Full Coverage Leathers – These come in varying degrees of quality which we can't control. For our purposes you must have a full set of leathers. If they are two piece they must zip together at least ¾ of the way around your waist. You may substitute leathers with a high quality textile riding suit such as an Aerostich. If you're in doubt, email or call and we'll verify your suit's “suitability.”

Gloves – These must be a leather riding glove that extends above the wrist, often called a gauntlet style glove. They must also have a cinching device at the wrist; some sort of strap that can be tightened around the wrist. Some of the first things to come off in a crash, street or track, are gloves if they're not cinched around the wrist. No motocross gloves.

Boots – The second item that comes off is foot wear. For the track you must wear leather boots that extend above the ankle; not ankle high, but above the ankle. We recommend a riding boot, but any leather work boot that extends above the ankle will suffice.

Back Protector – While not required, many trackday enthusiasts wear back protectors. These devices usually do two things. First, they protect the spine from impact and abrasion. Second, they are designed to prevent the spine from flexing backwards beyond the normal human range of motion. If your track time becomes frequent enough, and your speeds begin to increase significantly, you'll be making this investment without any coercion from us.
